Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 157

Explorer Post 157 provides young adults a unique opportunity to learn about law enforcement, develop leadership skills, and serve their community. Established in 1980 and reintroduced in 2007 by Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor, the program offers hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experiences designed to prepare future public safety professionals.

Why Join Explorer Post 157?

Hands-On Law Enforcement Training – Learn crime scene processing, traffic control, first aid, and patrol procedures from experienced deputies.

Ride-Along Program – Gain firsthand experience in law enforcement by shadowing deputies on patrol.

Community Involvement – Assist with public safety at local events and develop leadership skills through service projects.

Career & Leadership Development – Build discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that prepare you for a career in public safety.

Who Can Apply?

✔️ Ages 14-20
✔️ Enrolled in high school or college
✔️ Maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher
✔️ No serious criminal record
✔️ Parental approval (if under 18)

Advisor Requirements: Ensuring a Safe and Supportive Program

The success of Explorer Post 157 relies on qualified and dedicated adult advisors who mentor participants and uphold the highest standards of youth protection.

Mandatory Youth Protection Training – All adult advisors must complete the Boy Scouts of America’s Youth Protection Training every two years. This training educates advisors on recognizing, preventing, and responding to potential risks to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all Explorers.

Commitment to Mentorship – Advisors serve as role models, guiding Explorers through training, community service, and leadership development.

Law Enforcement or Public Safety Background (Preferred) – Advisors typically have experience in law enforcement, emergency services, or related fields.
